Steam players: two separate requirements

The EOS library and an Epic account are different things. If the Epic Games Store is not installed on your PC, launching the Steam game prompts you to download the redistributable. That is additional software for the game’s online services; buying on Steam does not remove this crossplay requirement. Account sign-in becomes relevant when you want to manage friends outside Steam.

Crossplay is different from cross-save

Crossplay answers whether people on different devices can race together online. Cross-save would answer whether your progress moves between versions; cross-buy would answer whether one purchase grants another platform’s game. Those features have not been announced. Budget for the platform you intend to play, and do not buy a second copy expecting a shared campaign save.

Exact launch-menu paths, invitation screens and platform-specific troubleshooting steps will depend on the released game. There is no need to follow a made-up account-linking walkthrough in advance. Prepare the supported software and account access, then use the game’s actual friend-management prompts.
